Friday Favs
I love lists. And I love telling people about stuff that I enjoy. So on Fridays, I’m going to make a list of things I’ve enjoyed over the past week that I might not have time to review fully. It could be movies or television or podcasts or books or Instagram accounts or whatever. It’s a list. You know how those work.
So here we go!
The Last of Us - Despite never playing this game (we’re a Nintendo family, not a Play Station family), I have been super excited about this show, and the first episode did not disappoint. Zombies are my favorite monsters, and this show looks like it’s going to have some really great ones. Also, give me all of the Pedro Pascal you have. He is just a dang delight. If you have HBO Max and enjoy zombies, you’ve probably already watched it, but if not, get on it. I don’t think you will be disappointed.
The Whale - I try not to pre-judge movies before I see them, but that’s not always easy to do. Despite him being considered one of the modern master directors, I am not a fan of Darren Aronofsky. So I went to see this movie expecting not to enjoy it. There is a chance I will eventually give this a proper review, but I must say, this film moved me more than I expected. Brendan Fraser gives a stunning performance, but aside from that, I was just deeply touched by the story. If you have an opportunity to see it, I think it’s worth your time. (And as I’m trying not to make this entry too long, I’m realizing that yes, I’m probably going to review this soon.)
The Meaning of the Movie - I have been internet friends with Rob Stennett for nearly a decade and he’s someone whose opinion I always listen to when we’re talking about movies. His movie podcast is one of my favorites. In the most recent episode, he and his co-host Andrew Harmon are talking about Vengeance, one of my favorite movies of last year.
The “Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret” Trailer - I am an old and this book meant so much to a young me. This movie looks perfect and I cannot wait to see it. I mean, it has my celebrity birthday twin in it, so of course it will be good.
Jamie Lee Curtis cheering for her bestie - Y’all know I cannot shut up about Everything Everywhere All At Once, so I am thrilled to see it doing well this awards season. But OMG. The pic of Jamie Lee Curtis just losing her shit when Michelle Yeoh was announced as the winner for the Golden Globe is just astounding, and this post on Instagram about women hyping women just fills me with joy.
That’s it for me this week. What are some of your favs? Let me know!
