Happy Friday! We have made it through another week! Sorry this is a little late today. It’s been a difficult week here in WV for trans folks and the people who care for them, and it threw off my writing schedule a bit. So we’ll be back with Michelle and Ted next week and today’s favs are going out a little late. But even in the midst of dark times, there are things to be grateful for, so let’s get to it! (This post may include affiliate links - thanks for supporting my work!)
Abbott Elementary - I know, I know, I’m supre late to this one. My son has been telling me I need to watch forever and I finally started this week and goodness. It is a delight. I don’t think there’s a charater in the show that I don’t like so far (though Jacob might be my favorite). I’m only 7 episodes in, but if you like me have put this off, maybe don’t. It’s uplifting and kind and who doesn’t love that?
Some Billy Mitchell shadenfreude - One of my all-time favorite documentaries is “The King of Kong: A Fistful of Quarters.” It follows Steve Wiebe as he’s seeking the record for Donkey Kong, only to be out maneuvered time and time again by Billy Mitchell. It is the perfect hero’s journey-type movie and I have watched it countless times, in part because Billy Mitchell is the perfect villain. And while I have always been a little bit wary of trusting a documentary to tell me about how good or bad someone is, Mitchell seems to just be that bad as new evidence has come out this week that he did cheat in his high score. Truly, if you haven’t seen this documentary, do it ASAP. It is one of the most entertaining 82 minutes you’ll have, I promise.
Jennette McCurdy’s book - I recently finished reading “I’m Glad My Mom Died” by Jennette McCurdy (the actor who played Sam on iCarly). For some really weighty subject matter (content warnings for disordered eating, child abuse, substance abuse, child exploitation), it is a surprisingly funny read. She is a gifted writer and I look foward to seeing her be able to move forward with a writing career that doesn’t include a lot of trauma dumping. Be happy, Jennette.
“Eggs are expensive” memes - Okay, this one has been going for a minute, but it still brings me a lot of delight. The TikTok algorithm is scary good, so it knows to feed me lots of these right now. Laughter is better than crying, right?
What are some of your favorite egg memes? Any good television or movies I should watch? Let me know in the comments and have a great weekend!
