After an interminable January and February, March feels like it is zipping by. Maybe it’s just that lost hour from last Sunday still messing with me. Anyway, let’s get to it!
Guest Post at Beth’s Exceptional Video Playlist - I’ve been subscribed to BEVP for a minute now and really enjoy her thorough breakdowns of various television shows. I admit, if it’s not something that I’m planning to write about, I’m not always the most observant viewer, so I love it when other people notice fun details that I absolutely missed. Beth has been recapping “The Last of Us,” and invited me to collab with her on the finale. It’s the first time I’ve done that on Substack and she was a great guide and an excellent collaborator. Definitely hoping to do this again! In the meantime, give this a read and then subscribe to BEVP. It’s a good one.
New season of Ted Lasso is here! - I really am thrilled about this. I love the show so much and am so excited to see what they have in store for everyone. I feel like there are so many story lines set up and so much heartbreak and growth and sadness and joy coming. It’s just such a beautifully crafted narrative in the midst of a goofy story. I both want all of it released immediately and also want to savor every episode. Also, if spin-offs are in the works, please let one of them be a roadtrip comedy with Roy and Pheobe.
The Oscars - I do not care one whit what Paul Schrader had to say, I really enjoyed the Oscars this year. Granted, I am thrilled that Everything Everywhere cleaned up, but genuinely, just seeing so many first time nominees win just felt really great. I loved Harvey Guillen’s suit, I loved Jessica Chastain’s dress, I loved Daniel Kwan’s jacket, I loved Ke Huy Quan’s selfies, I loved Daniel Scheinert’s shout out to teachers and support of drag. Just generally speaking, I loved it. I hate that “The Banshees of Inisherin” and “Tar” both went home empty-handed, and I wish their could have been a three-way tie between Jamie Lee Curtis, Stephanie Hsu, and Angela Bassett, but mostly I just thought it was a fun night.
My Husband - We celebrated our ninth anniversary on Tuesday. We didn’t do anything particularly special to celebrate, though we are beginning to plan for next year when we celebrate our 10th anniversary and our 50th birthdays. He’s actually my favorite every day, not just this Friday. It’s pretty great when you get to hang out every day with your best friend, and that’s him. I feel incredibly lucky all the time to have such a supportive, funny, caring partner.
Tell me about your favorite things from this week - I’d love to hear about what is making you happy!
I enjoyed the Oscars too. The show had a good pace. And I was especially thrilled to see Jamie Lee Curtis win. She seems like a solid person, and her husband is one of my favorites.
Happy Anniversary!
