The easiest way for you to be a feminist today
That's kind of a lie, but you should read this anyway
It’s been a while since I have asked folks to support this site financially. I genuinely hate asking for money, and honestly, I don’t paywall much content because I know that I hate clicking on something only to discover that I can’t read it. So, I feel bad because there aren’t many perks for financially supporting the site. Occasionally, you will get a more personal essay, but for the most part, I like to allow everyone to read my work.
But it is work. It’s a fun job, don’t get me wrong, but it requires time, both for the watching and then the analysis and writing. This year, I intend to expand the number of films I watch and review. I have also been putting more time into video reviews (you have probably noticed those tagged onto the bottom of recent posts), which requires even more time. I would also really love to get back to podcasting, as I have the best time doing that.
Here’s the thing. As a freelancer, everything I do here takes time away from saying yes to paying jobs. Whether it's taking on more piano students or accepting more stories from the newspaper, I have a limited number of hours available and a deep desire not to completely burn out. Your $50/year or $5/month helps me feel better about those no’s.
All of that to say, I’m here to ask you to consider becoming a paying subscriber to my newsletter. And to make that a little more palatable, I am offering a 20% discount to anyone who signs up this month. Whether you pay for the full year or choose a monthly subscription, you will get that 20% off for as long as you support this newsletter. Which means just $40/year or $4/month. I understand that this is a lot for plenty of people, so please don’t feel guilty if you can’t afford it. I get it.
It makes me deeply uncomfortable to ask folks to support me in this way. Like, SO UNCOMFORTABLE. But I have spent a lot of my forties doing things that make me uncomfortable, and that has led me to some truly amazing opportunities. So I’m going to keep doing it.
So, if you have a little extra cash money and you appreciate what I do here, I’m asking you to support this female film critic. Click the many links I have scattered through this post or the button below, and then feel free to use hashtag feminism for your good deed of the day. You earned it.
(And my unending thanks to those who have already upgraded. I appreciate it more than I can express.)
