I am nearly 40,000 words into my Ted Lasso book. Two of the four sections are finished and the third will be done early next week, leaving just one section consisting of four chapters left to get done. I am definitely in the home stretch.
As I mentioned recently, I am really hoping to finish this by the end of the month and I think that is within reach. Then I can spend the spooky month doing edits and letting some trusted friends have a look at it, both scary things that feel appropriate for Halloween.
But in order to finish on time and keep up with my writing for the newspaper, I am going to skip my BoJack posts this month. I love writing them (because I love the show), but they take a lot of time and right now I need to put all of my energy into working on the book.
Movie reviews will continue to happen every Monday and Tuesday and I have at least a couple additional essays planned for this month that I can work on when I have a little extra bandwidth (one about some of takeaways I had from the horror movie Talk to Me and one about the unending conversation about “what should studios learn from Barbie”), but keeping up with a regular series feels like more than I can manage.
Thank you so much for choosing to spend some of your time here on my Substack. I can’t wait to get back into BoJack season 2 in a few weeks (and to share more about the book in the coming months)!
Thanks for sharing the update. I look forward to more BoJack and wish you luck as you near completion of the Ted Lasso work.
As writers we often are challenged by competing priorities and projects. I’m just thinking thru how I’m starting to teach a Greta Gerwig class in under two weeks and need to shift into teaching mode while trying to balance two substacks and other work. I’ll need to take my foot off the accelerator on TV perhaps and make tough temporary decisions. Helping to socialize and normalize these life decisions is so refreshing. I’m learning from you!
