Howdy friends!
I haven’t sent out a Friday newsletter in a long time, but I’ve been doing some things on the internet that might be of interest to you and I thought this might be a good place to share them.
First, I am super excited to share that I was accepted into the International Film Society Critics Association. I had applied last year and didn’t get in, so I was thrilled to make the cut this time. There are a ton of talented writers and vloggers in that group and I am honored to be a member.
I’ve had the chance to chat with a few fellow critics on their podcasts. I have visited Austin Belzer twice to talk about Barbie. I included the first time here, but we decided that we wanted to have a spoilers episode, so you can watch that one below. I share one of my favorite lines of the movie that isn’t America Ferrera’s speech.
I also visited Rachel of Rachel’s Reviews for her Female Film Critics panel. It was a really fun conversation about movies and faith and the similarities I find between rom-coms and horror films, my two favorite genres. Check that out here.
With all of this talking, I have decided to revive my own podcast, Best Worst Movies, where a guest and I discuss a movie with a rotten score at Rotten Tomatoes that they love anyway. You can find previous episodes where we discussed Beaches, Hook, and She’s the Man. I already have some great movies scheduled for this season. Watch for the first one, a discussion of A Knight’s Tale with Sebastian Zavala coming up later this week.
And speaking of watching things! I have been trying to branch out into the video medium. This is Very Uncomfortable for me, but leaning into discomfort is good for me, so here we are. So I’m inviting you to join me over on TikTok where I have been doing regular one-minute reviews.
Also, as I prepare to relaunch Best Worst Movies, I am going to share the podcast on YouTube as well as all of the podcasting places. So consider joining the 7 other people who already follow me on YouTube! It’s super exclusive, doncha know!
Finally, I have been getting some good feedback on the Ted Lasso Guide to Relationships (or Ted Lasso Relationship Guide - what do you think???). Planning to start rewrites next week. I haven’t looked at the manuscript in a month, so I feel like I’ll be able to see it with fresh eyes. Hoping to finish rewrites by the end of the year and get it to an editor early in 2024 and with any luck, self-publish sometime next spring or summer. Woo!
Now, tell me what you’re up to or excited about. I want to celebrate all of the good happening! Share in the comments!
